This project was based on a discussion I had long since wanted to research: that of video game controller design.  The world before analogue sticks and rumble features has long been forgotten, and my spread is there to let you know how that came to be.

I was just learning the basics of InDesign when I had begun this project of a blue-eyed model for Mitner Clothing Company.  The idea was simple - take one strong primary color and match it with an element in a photograph.  The result was a mix of two primary colors - teal blue and dandelion yellow - with a brown shade.  According to the color wheel from BAmagazine.com, a complimentary color to blue is orange, and one of the hues of orange is a color similar to brown. With this combination, I was able to combine the feeling of a cool and tranquil setting with a warm and palpable photograph, suitable for a winter or autumn advertisement.

Learning how to manipulate graphics was perhaps the most useful technique I learned while messing a bit with Adobe Fireworks.  At first glance, you might consider this to be a simple picture of a starfish on a beach (click the thumbnail to see the entire image).  But you will soon come to realize that I had found a way to emboss a string of text into a background while matching its color and texture.  This technique allows me to “ink mark” my own photographs for copyright purposes.
